Strings
These illustrations begin to show how a string vibrates. The Fundamental, or 1st Partial, is the full length vibrating, this is divided in halves and quarters, etc., each vibrating. The Fundamental is also divided into thirds and each divided, etc. Each division is divided both evenly and in thirds. It is these subdivisions which speak as the harmonics of the string.
Due to inherent differences in cabinet, soundboard, ribbing, bridging, pinblock, strings, plate, etc., etc., no two pianos are exactly alike. Each string has its own unique characteristics and tone.
